bad bad blogger

Hi all
Sorry for not blogging!
Been busy looking for my perfect 50’s house (which i have found!) and sewing my 1950’s wiggle dress.
Will update you on both these things very soon.

Serendipity

I feel like there is some kind of force field sucking me into a vortex and I will pop out the other end at 1945.

Let me explain..

I started off this project being quite broad with my era of vintage interest. It started off with a love of the 50’s clothes and the idea of being a lady and making some kind of effort with my appearance and behaviour.
I still love the wiggle dresses and the hair – in fact I have a number of business ideas floating round my head to do with maximising my new found knowledge in this area.

However I have been more taken lately with the 40’s.

I am in love with the tailored dressing, the simple silhouette, the rationing leading to thriftiness and the whole idea that I could dress just like my nana used to.
So consequently I have been searching specifically for 40’s clothes on trade me and the like.
Man have I had some successes.
I am planning to do some posts on the finds i have made – but I am interested in the stories behind the clothes.
I have aquired 2 long frockcoats for example, that were made in London and have an old cigarette smoke smell that makes them seem so exotic.

And strange coincidences keep happening that make me think there is some invisible pull towards me getting more and more involved in the vintage lifestyle…
Take last night for example.
I caught up with my friend Luke in town and we decided to walk to a bar I had not visited but had heard was good.

Turns out it is decorated entirely vintage and it so happened there was a vintage swing dance event on – held by the dance company that provides swing lessons that I have been badgering Luke to attend lessons with me.

That was a little spooky.
We bravely made up our own dancing while the experts did the proper stuff.
great fun.
And then there is the cute little 1940’s house that materialised in my search to buy a place.

Where will it all end?
